Before starting, do not forget to apply the optimization advice of Photoshop for image editing in the tutorial available here.
When opening your image file in Photoshop CS, the following message may appear :
1. Missing profile : the image does not have any ICC profile.

If the image comes from a digital camera (compact or bridge), assign it the sRGB profile type.

If the image comes from a Web site, assign it the sRGB profile type.

If the image comes from a digital SLR camera, give to your image the Adobe RVB profile.
If you don't know which profile assign, we advise you to make copies of the image, to open each copies with different profiles and keep the one you like best.
In all the cases, never tick "Leave as is (don't color manage)" nor "Assign working RGB".
2.
The image has an embedded color profile, but different from the workspace.

If the image comes from a digital camera (compact or bridge) or from the the Internet, assign it the sRGB profile type.

If the image comes from a flat scanner or a film scanner, leave the image with its embedded profile.

Never Remove the embedded profile. You will convert it later if necessary.
