INSTRUCTIONS
The photo as above comes from a D80 Nikon in automatic white balance mode. The color temperature sensor has recorded the high yellow dominance of the incandescent light. But thanks to the TrueColors™ chart present in the picture, the white balance is corrected in one click in an editing software. How ?
The TrueColors™ gray goes all the way through, not just a coating on top. If, during the shot, the camera gives the picture a bad white balance, the grey of the TrueColors™ will show the same deviation of color as the rest of the photo. As the target values of the grey of the TrueColors chart have been defined (measured by means of a spectrophotometer and written on the back of each card), this color deviation will simply have to be measured in postproduction by an editing software so that the picture can be automatically corrected.

WHY IS A GREY CARD USEFUL ?
The human sight can adapt itself to ambient light, whereas digital cameras cannot. They adapt themselves only partially to the different surrounding lights (tungsten, fluorescent, or even natural light
And yet, digital cameras provides an adjustment of the different sorts of lights : the white balance. Thanks to this white balance, the predominant color can be adjusted according to the surrounding light (it is called the color temperature). This means that, theoretically, thanks to the white balance, the colors of the edited picture are not spoilt by the dominant lightning.
