Not many photographers who use Windows XP as yet know that Microsoft offers a component which fits in the configuration panel. This component, called Color Control Panel, is meant to group together all the configuration parameters related not only to the calibration of your screen but also to the color profiles management !

This component is compatible with the following Windows versions : Windows XP (Home and Professional) Editions) ; Windows XP Tablet PC Edition.
The application is divided into 3 thumbnails which enable you :
-
to manage display color profiles,
-
to install and suppress ICC profiles,
-
to compare several ICC profiles,
-
to combine profiles with pictures peripherals,
-
to access the detailed properties of an ICC profile,
-
to rename a profile efficiently.
The first thumbnail called "Color" enables you to visualize the default Windows colour space. It also enables you to check the management module currently installed on your system. A function periodically reminds you via an alarm system to do a new calibration of your screen, which any graphic designer will find very interesting indeed !

Image Color Management
The second thumbnail "Profiles" enables you to visualize the color profiles currently installed on your computer (*.icm and *.icc extension) and to identify their directory. Besides, it simply manages the installing and deinstalling process of the color profile. Finally, it also enables you to compare/visualize any profile on your computer, thanks to an assistant giving 3D graphics of the selected profile(s).

Profiles management
The last thumbnail, called "Devices" is meant to combine a color profile with a picture peripheral connected on your computer (printers, scanner, CRT/LCD screen, etc ...).

Device Color profile Associations
View a 3D graphics plot of color profile color gamuts proves very useful to compare the gamut of your different peripherals/profiles. You can even modify the zoom and the display opacity.

3D profiles rendering
Once you have downloaded and installed it, run the application called "Color" located on your configuration panel (Start menu / Parameters / Configuration panel).
